Sustainability

(Deforestation, Pollution, Recycling, Social responsibility)

Biodiversity

Greenwashing

The term biodiversity (from “biological diversity”) refers to the variety of life on Earth at all its levels, from genes to ecosystems, and can encompass the evolutionary, ecological, and cultural processes that sustain life.

Greenwashing is the process of conveying a false impression or providing misleading information about how a company's products are more environmentally sound. Greenwashing is considered an unsubstantiated claim to deceive consumers into believing that a company's products are environmentally friendly.

Sustainability is defined as the integration of environmental health, social equity and economic vitality in order to create thriving, healthy, diverse and resilient communities for the present and the future. The practice of sustainability recognizes how these issues are interconnected and requires a systems approach and an acknowledgement of complexity.

Sustainable practices support ecological, human, and economic health and vitality. It presumes that resources are finite, and should be used conservatively and wisely with a view to long-term priorities and consequences of the ways in which resources are used.

Circular economy

The circular economy is a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible. In this way, the life cycle of products is extended. In practice, it implies reducing waste to a minimum. When a product reaches the end of its life, its materials are kept within the economy wherever possible.

Permaculture

Permaculture integrates land, resources, people and the environment through mutually beneficial synergies – imitating the no waste, closed loop systems seen in diverse natural systems. Permaculture studies and applies holistic solutions that are applicable in rural and urban contexts at any scale. It is a multidisciplinary toolbox including agriculture, water harvesting and hydrology, energy, natural building, forestry, waste management, animal systems, aquaculture, appropriate technology, economics and community development.

TECH

The participants were introduced to Interactive Audioguides - a unique, site-specific, versatile tool, capable of raising awareness through storytelling. Interactive Audioguides are especially useful as a tool for dissemination and civic action because they can be adapted to specific contexts and issues. Thanks to the current technology, they can be enjoyed easily through phone apps or even social media messaging.

The participants have been introduced, through a learning-by-doing approach, to the 4 essential aspects useful to develop their own Audioguides.

OUTPUT - Multimedia dossier/Interactive audioguides

The young participants were introduced to the fundamentals of interactive audioguides:

1. Storytelling - an audioguide works best when it tells a compelling story.

2. Topic - audioguides can be used as a dissemination tool to raise awareness to specific issues.

3. Interaction - audioguides reach their maximum potential when they are well connected to a specific environment and when they encourage interaction with it.

4. Tech elements - the participants experimented with different tech aspects to produce an audioguide: audio recording, audio editing, podcasting, and geofencing.
